Albert Anderson. 'Blackie' Townsend, leaving earth at 84, of Farrow Hill Road, was born July 15, 1918 in Wood County to the late William Walter and Winifred Foggin Townsend. He was a Proud US Navy veteran of World War II. Distinguished in his service, in addition to his dedication of training and rehabilitating injured servicemen and POW detainees as he taught many how to garden, farm, and maintenance the equipment while promoting peace. Albert was employed with the Wood County Board of Education for 40 years as a bus driver and in the Maintenance Department. He always seen the best in people and did all he could to help others. He along with his entire family was involved with 4H and WVU extension for over 40 years as leaders and enjoyed working with the fairs and ox roasts. Also, he enjoyed many years of wood working and camping at the Board of Education Park in Cairo, attending to the maintenance faithfully. As a member of the Murphytown D.A.V he was known to always be ready to give of his time and limited resources anytime a need would arise, folk just went to see " Blackie" he will have it or make it. Married faithfully over 60 years, to Anna Lois Kidder Townsend, while fathering four amazing children, each having distinguished military ties and service in our region. Albert taught us all especially, our mother Betty (daughter) and Ed Graham (son in law) along with ten grandchildren, Scott, Randy and Chris Graham of Farrow Hill and 16 great grandchildren how to serve others well. Albert Anderson Townsend was blessed and served us all by his servant hood and forward thinking. He inspired his son in-law Edward Graham through the many years of local businesses owned and operated, while imparting those same dreams of Legacy and success in us and all his grandchildren. It is our honor to brand our successes and future Legacy adventures after all our families hard work ethics and God fearing morals leading our charge as Anderson Ridge becomes a greater place of resource to the MOV and our region.
